The documentary "Like Notes of Music: Christian Peltenburg-Brechneff: The Landscape Painter" will be shown for the first time on Thursday Sept. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St.

The premiere will benefit the Center for Arts Programming at the University of New
Haven’s Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. It is part of a partnership Lyme Academy
College has with The Kate to bring arts films to the region.
The film is a portrait of the landscape painter and depicts his life in America and Switzerland. It follows him as he travels from Basel, his home town, where he exhibits regularly, back and forth to New York, and chronicles his work with another America painter, Tim Lovejoy, in a house on the Connecticut River.
The film also returns with him to the Greek island of Sifnos where he had a house and painted every year for about 30 years. The house was depicted in Peltenburg-Brechneff’s book The Greek House, a major inspiration for the documentary.
Peltenburg-Brechneff’s paintings appear in public and private collections worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Greece, and the Orange County Museum, Newport Beach, California.
He has won numerous awards, including the Swiss Federal Government Scholarship.
In conjunction with the screening, a selection of Brechneff’s oil paintings will be shown from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 at The Cooley Gallery, 25 Lyme Street,Old Lyme.
